A Shaw thing
While Cliftonville Ladies are still on a high following an impressive run of results in Cup competitions, Claire Shaw says it’s vital for the Champions to hit the ground running when they return to Sports Direct Women’s Premiership action this evening.
The Reds travel to Seaview for a North Belfast Derby showdown with Crusaders Strikers that Shaw expects to be a challenging affair.
“It is very important to hit the ground running in the Premiership and continue with our winning ways,” she says.
“The table is close at the top, it is vital that we stay on form and win every game.
“No doubt Crusaders will put the pressure on us from the first whistle and try to put the game to bed early. They are a good, physical side with experienced players. We know what we have to do to win this game.”
Tonight’s tie is Cliftonville’s first League game in three weeks, during which time they have reached the semi-finals of the Premiership League Cup and Avenir Sports All-Island Cup, adding to an upcoming County Antrim Cup Final date with the Crues – and Shaw has called for the momentum to continue.
“We started off the season in winning form and we want to continue that across all competitions throughout the whole season,” she adds.
“The depth this squad has in terms of strong and quality players reflects on our results in the past week. We are hungry to win every game we play.”
