McGuinness expects United approach
Caitlin McGuinness expects Ballymena United Women to be fired up for tonight’s Sports Direct Women’s Premiership encounter at Solitude.
Having dropped their first points of the season in last week’s 2-2 draw with Glentoran Women, Cliftonville Ladies will bid to get back on track against a side enjoying its maiden season of top-flight football – which McGuinness believes makes them a dangerous prospect.
“I expect Ballymena to be up for the game as a newly promoted team,” she explains.
“I’m sure they’ll want to test themselves against us as we are the League winners from last year, so we can expect a tough game although I’m confident we can do the job.
“We’ve made a very strong start, I think the girls have done extremely well up to now. Hopefully we can keep this form going throughout the season.”
Though focused on tonight’s duel with the Sky Blues, McGuinness reveals that she and her team-mates are looking forward to the various new challenges lingering on the horizon in three separate Cup competitions over the coming weeks.
“We’re very excited,” she says. “Cup matches bring an opportunity to win silverware and that’s what every footballer wants.”
