Four for two

Cliftonville Ladies 15-0 Ballymena United Women

Caitlin McGuinness and Claire Shaw each celebrated four goals in Cliftonville Ladies’ emphatic victory over Ballymena United Women in tonight’s Sports Direct Women’s Premiership clash at Solitude.

McGuinness opened the scoring when she slotted home from a narrow angle after just five minutes before Shaw doubled the hosts’ advantage with a deflected header soon later.

After Danielle Maxwell made it 3-0, an own goal by Megan Davidson extended the scoreline ahead of McGuinness, Marissa Callaghan and Fi Morgan netting within four minutes of one another.

A Callaghan penalty made it 8-0 at half-time and Cliftonville’s relentless display continued into the second period, where McGuinness completed her treble just three minutes after the re-start.

Maxwell struck to take the Reds into double figures and McGuinness quickly added her fourth of the night ahead of Toni-Leigh Finnegan notching number 12.

Just past the hour, Shaw was on target again and became the second player of the night to toast a treble when she bundled in another goal eight minutes from the end – but there was still time for her to wrap things up with the Reds’ 15th strike of the night as injury-time approached.
