Off to a flying stat

Regular readers of our Matchday Magazine will know all the facts and figures behind each new week at Cliftonville Football Club, while our Twitter followers are regaled with daily delves into the archives and, following the Reds’ return to Danske Bank Premiership action on Saturday, Heritage Development Officer Paul Treanor has provided the first statistical update of the new season.

Cliftonville’s win was our 40th in 65 meetings with Carrick Rangers and was the 335th time the Reds have recorded victory by a 2-1 scoreline.

Jamie Harney’s goal double took him on to seven League strikes for the Club, lifting him above Rory Hamill, Marc Smyth and Darren Murray into joint 42nd of 131 different Premiership scorers.

The outcome also maintained Cliftonville’s record of never having lost a Premiership home game with Carrick and also saw the team – which boasted four debutants in Jamie McDonagh, Jonny Addis, Chris Gallagher and Luke Turner – close in on two more milestones, with the Club’s 8000th goal and 1750th victory poised to be achieved in the near future.
