Second thoughts for Corinthians

Commiserations to Cliftonville Corinthians, who missed out on the Electric Ireland Women’s Academy League title following defeat to Sion Swifts Under-19s at Solitude today.

The Reds headed into the game trailing table-topping Sion by two points and knew that only victory would be enough for them to be crowned Champions.

Erin Montgomery’s goal gave Stuart Irvine’s side a half-time lead, only for the visitors to hit back with two second-half strikes to seal the win and top spot in the standings.

In congratulating Sion on their achievement, we also pay tribute to the efforts of everyone associated with the Corinthians throughout a superb season and one which Irvine and his backroom team John Madden and David Finlay are no doubt already looking forward to building upon next term.
