Aars and graces

Congratulations to Aaron Donnelly, who was crowned Cliftonville’s 2020/21 Player of the Year ahead of kick-off in Saturday’s season-opener with Carrick Rangers.

The 21-year-old defender, who made his 100th appearance for the Club in the closing weeks of last term, emerged on top of a supporters poll conducted at the end of May but, with no formal ceremony able to be staged due to Covid regulations, news of Aaron’s victory was kept strictly under wraps until the weekend.

Donnelly played 39 times in a variety of positions for the Reds last season, while his only strike of the campaign – a looping effort against Glenavon at Solitude – was named March’s Goal of the Month and contributed to a superb overall showing for the versatile defender, culminating in his well-earned receipt of our Player of the Year trophy from Chairman Gerard Lawlor.
