Many thanks to everyone who supported Billie Simpson’s Puskas Award nomination, but unfortunately the Cliftonville Ladies star has missed out on the final shortlist.

Over the past couple of weeks, football fans around the world have been selecting their favourite goals from 10 contenders, with Lionel Messi, Juan Fernando Quintero and Daniel Zsori topping the public vote ahead of the overall winner being announced at FIFA’s forthcoming annual awards ceremony.

Our congratulations nevertheless remain with Billie, whose outrageous halfway-line volley against Sion Swifts Ladies made global headlines, on the honour of scoring one of the 10 best goals registered anywhere around the world over the last 12 months – and, just 48 hours ahead of the Reds returning to Sion on Danske Bank Women’s Premiership duty, here’s wishing her the very best of luck for her next inevitable shot at glory!
