August beginnings
Saturday’s 5-1 victory over Warrenpoint Town saw August end on a winning note – but who do you think was Cliftonville’s best player in their first six matches of the season?
The Reds started the campaign with a late Joe Gormley strike earning a dramatic draw with Coleraine at The Showgrounds ahead of Glenavon being defeated 3-1 at Solitude, where a Gormley brace and eye-catching strike from Ryan Curran sealed the points.
After losing to Crusaders, Cliftonville bounced back with a win over Carrick Rangers courtesy of a solitary strike from Chris Curran, who also broke the deadlock when Moyola Park were ousted from the League Cup in a second round encounter that saw Gormley and McMenamin join him on the scoresheet.
Over the weekend, meanwhile, Ruaidhri Donnelly opened and closed the Reds’ scoring at Warrenpoint – where McMenamin, Liam Bagnall and Gormley likewise found the target – as Paddy McLaughlin’s side made it four wins and a draw from six outings in August.
