McAlery grave rededication

Cliftonville Football Club were proud to be represented at the rededication of John McCredy McAlery’s grave this afternoon.

Our President Paul Treanor was joined by Chairman Kevin Crossan, Club Patron Jim Boyce, recently departed Secretary George Walsh and Solitude stalwart Billy Hosie at Balmoral Cemetery, where NI Football League Chief Executive and former Reds Chairman Gerard Lawlor was among the speakers for the occasion.

The founding father of not just Cliftonville FC but also of football in Ireland, Mr McAlery’s resting place – plus that of his wife Susan and her family – had unfortunately fallen into a state of disrepair in recent years but, almost a century-and-a-half since his pioneering vision led to the establishment of our Club, we are delighted to observe its restoration and were very pleased to be in attendance at today’s rededication ceremony.
