Call of Fame

Congratulations to Marissa Callaghan, who was this afternoon formally inducted into the NI Football Writers’ Hall of Fame.

The first ever female player to receive the honour, Callaghan today joined former Northern Ireland international Gareth McAuley in being added to the prestigious list of entrants.

Capped 91 times by Northern Ireland, whom she captained at Euro 2022, Callaghan was a double Premiership Champion with Cliftonville Ladies and brought the curtain down on her stellar career at the end of last season, having helped the Reds successfully defend their Irish Cup and League Cup crowns.

“It’s an honour to join the NIFWA Hall of Fame alongside so many famous names from the world of football,” she said.

“The award is not just a reflection of my efforts, but the support and help of all my team-mates and coaches over the years.”
