Cup and away

Congratulations to Cliftonville Under-17 Girls, who lifted the South Belfast Youth League Cup at the weekend.

Brook McAree and Aoife Kavanagh scored the goals in a 2-0 victory over St Oliver Plunkett’s at Blanchflower Stadium, where Molly Gallagher emerged with the Player of the Match award.

In addition to saluting the efforts of the team as well as coaches Nick Casey and John Madden, we also reserve compliments for the players’ proud parents on this much-cherished trophy success.

Also on Sunday, the youngest team in the Cliftonville Girls Academy produced a terrific performance despite losing out to Bloomfield in the Under-10s SBYL Cup Final.

Trailing 3-0 at the break, the team coached by Robert and Carol continued to play some fine football in the second-half and, but for some superb goalkeeping, would have had more than just Eilidh Morgan’s goal to show for their considerable efforts.
