Shon bright
Cliftonville duo Shona Davis and Fi Morgan were on the scoresheet as Northern Ireland Women’s Under-19s got the better of the Faroe Islands in yesterday’s European Championship Qualifier at Inver Park.
After taking the lead through Kathryn Dickson, Alfie Wylie’s side raced 3-0 up courtesy Eve Reilly’s double before Davis (pictured) pounced for the fourth after a Dickson effort had come back off the crossbar.
Goal of the night was reserved for last, however, when a foul on Dickson some 30 yards out earned Northern Ireland a free-kick and, with the Faroes defence clearly expecting a dinked delivery to the back post, skipper Morgan had other ideas and rattled in a sensational strike off he underside of the crossbar.
Erin Montgomery – whose appearance from the bench took the Cliftonville representation to six alongside Lauren Welsh, Grace McKimm and Abbie McHenry – went close to adding to the hosts’ tally with an effort that landed on the roof of the net as Wylie’s charges enjoyed a comfortable victory ahead of completing their League B Group One schedule against Azerbaijan on Tuesday.
