Swiss role for Reds girls

Cliftonville duo Marissa Callaghan and Kelsie Burrows were both in the starting XI for Northern Ireland Women’s friendly draw with Switzerland in Marbella this morning.

The McGuinness sisters, Kirsty and Caitlin, also made appearances from the bench as Kenny Shiels’ side continued their three-game trip with an impressive result against their much-fancied opponents.

Captain Callaghan (pictured) had gone close to breaking the deadlock when she almost got on the end of a ninth minute free-kick delivery from Lauren Wade but it was Everton’s Simone Magill who opened the scoring just before half-time, with the same player also registering Northern Ireland’s equaliser after the Swiss had turned the tie on its head to lead 2-1 in the second period.
