Rec and roll joy

Cliftonville Ladies put three unanswered goals past Comber Rec Ladies to earn all three points from tonight’s Danske Bank Women’s Premiership clash.

After Niamh Connolly and Leontia McVarnock had each found the net to put the Reds in control, Marissa Callaghan’s double put the seal on things as the visitors got back to winning ways in the League.

Callaghan clipped the bar in the opening minutes and also drew a save from the home keeper before Leah McEvoy saw an effort ruled out for offside.

Joana Da Silva was next to try her luck before Cliftonville pulled in front courtesy of Connolly’s effort on the half-hour.

Megan Moran’s stunning goal-line clearance prevented Comber from levelling before the break, after which the Reds went 2-0 ahead thanks to McVarnock.

Callaghan’s blistering strike extended the Reds’ lead and the Northern Ireland skipper would go on to complete her brace in the closing minutes to wrap up a hard-fought success.
