Point blank
Cliftonville 0-0 Glenavon
Cliftonville were forced to settle for a draw as 10-man Glenavon held on for a point in a frustrating stalemate at Solitude this afternoon.
As has been a frequent tale in recent times, the Reds dominated possession but, up against a well drilled defence, were unable to eke out any clear-cut chances – although they did see a host of glorious opportunities go to waste over the course of the game.
The best opening of the first-half saw Michael Newberry head Ronan Doherty’s free-kick delivery over the top, while the second period saw Micheal Glynn twice go close to converting from corners.
After the visitors had Rhys Marshall dismissed for a second bookable offence, Jonny Addis and Ryan Curran were off target with headers while, deep into injury-time, Ryan Markey saw an attempt strike the post and bounce wide.
