Win and Burr it
Kelsie Burrows wants the entire Cliftonville Ladies squad to enjoy tonight’s title celebrations, insisting that everyone has played a part in bringing the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership trophy back to Solitude.
Skipper Burrows will get the party in full swing when she raises the silverware after tonight’s concluding League match against Crusaders Strikers at Seaview, where the Reds arrive as newly crowned Champions following a stunning six-goal defeat of title rivals Glentoran Women last Sunday.
“For me personally to win the League and be able to lift the trophy is an honour but, most importantly, to do it with the team as everyone has had a massive role to play no matter how many games they played during the season,” she explains.
“It clicked so well for us against the Glens because of how well we trained that week and the team knew that if we won that game, we’d win the League, which was our aim from the start of the season. It also showed the quality of players we have to not just win but win comfortably.”
With the title already secured and an Electric Ireland Women’s Irish Cup Final on the horizon, boss John McGrady could perhaps be forgiven for allowing his players to take their foot off the gas for tonight’s North Belfast Derby duel – but, having won all 15 of their Premiership outings so far this term, Burrows insists nobody in the camp will be taking the challenge lightly.
“This year, we set ourselves a target to win the League and the other trophies to go with it, so our full focus is firstly to ensure we get that 100% record and put on a good performance while doing it,” she adds.
