Safe pair of Hanns

With just over a week until the new Sports Direct Women’s Premiership season begins, Cliftonville Ladies formally brought the curtain down on an historic 2023 campaign this evening.

A night after booking their place in the League Cup Final, the Cup holders reconvened to hand out their end-of-term awards from players and management alike.

Hannah Doherty was the big winner, earning both the Players’ Player of the Year gong as well as being singled out by boss John McGrady and his coaching staff for her displays throughout a season that saw the Reds lift two trophies, reach the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup Final and compete in the Women’s Champions League for the very first time.

Young defender Orleigha McGuinness landed the Young Player of the Year honour, while Marissa Callaghan was rewarded as the team’s Top Scorer.

As well as dishing out accolades to our senior talents, the event – staged at Cliftonville Bowling Club – also recognised our stars of the future currently plying their trade with Cliftonville Corinthians.

The Under-19s selected Chelsea Irvine as their Player of the Year for the second season in a row and, in addition to Tara Reilly landing the Manager’s accolade, saw Katie Markey retain her Top Scorer status alongside rewarding Emma Callaghan with their Most Improved Player award.
