Drawn to a close

Linfield 1-1 Cliftonville

Cliftonville handed debuts to a couple of young Academy stars as the curtain came down on the Sports Direct Premiership season with a 1-1 draw against Linfield at Windsor Park this evening.

After a dreary first-half during which neither side displayed any level of intensity, the second period saw the Reds carve out a number of openings that saw substitutes Ryan Corrigan and Ronan Doherty threaten.

As is often typical of away clashes with the Blues, Cliftonville’s best period of the game duly concluded with them falling behind when Jordan Stewart nodded home the opener 12 minutes from time.

A couple of smart saves from David Odumosu ensured that Linfield were unable to extend their advantage before the Reds – energised by the introductions of debut boys Keevan Hawthorne and Joe Sheridan – produced a strong finish that saw Sam Ashford convert from close range after good build-up play between Shea Gordon and Hawthorne.
