Light show

Jim Magilton wants Cliftonville to be inspired by the occasion when they host Linfield in this evening’s sold-out Sports Direct Premiership clash at Solitude.

The Reds have lost both previous meetings with David Healy’s side this term and, though Magilton saw plenty of positives in their performances during those games, the Cliftonville boss is acutely aware of the importance of the three points on offer tonight.

“The next game was always going to be important for us no matter who we played, but there’s no doubting this is a huge one,” he said.

“It’s a big game under the lights at Solitude, our supporters will be up for it and we have to go and perform.

“Linfield are a team full of players who are used to winning and they have a Manager who has built a Linfield team all around winning and success. They’re going to come here and they’re going to put up a show, and we’ve got to recognise their strengths and come out with our own.”

On his side’s failure to get the better of the Blues so far this season, Magilton added: “The facts are we haven’t won those games, so there will be no better time than now to right those wrongs.

“I think we’ve been competitive in all of those games and, had we taken our chances, it would have been interesting, but Linfield under the lights at Solitude is a game that should motivate rather than intimidate and I’m looking forward to it.”
