Going halfers

Cliftonville 4-2 Glenavon

Cliftonville produced a stirring second-half turnaround to overcome Glenavon in a thrill-a-minute Sports Direct Premiership showdown at Solitude this afternoon.

After finding themselves under the cosh during an opening 45 minutes dominated by the Lurgan Blues, the Reds were perhaps fortunate to only be a single goal down at the break; James Doona;s firm finish proving the difference.

It didn’t take Cliftonville long to retrieve the situation, though, with Rory Hale levelling with a header from a cross by Sam Ashford, who raced through to make it 2-1 shortly afterwards.

Glenavon refused to lie down, however, and equalised through substitute Matthew Snoddy before a foul on Ronan Hale allowed Joe Gormley to score from the penalty spot.

Gormley then completed his double in injury-time to ensure there would be no nervy finale when he kept his cool to dink past Gareth Deane after a quick free-kick from Jonny Addis,
