Cliftonville Ladies are the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership Champions.

Huge congratulations to Brendan Lynch and his players, who have secured the title with two games left to play and can now look forward to returning the UEFA Women’s Champions League action next year, when they will be bidding to build on their historic achievement in the competition last season.

Having extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points with Friday night’s 3-1 victory over Lisburn Rangers, the Reds’ third Premiership crown in five seasons was mathematically secured when Glentoran Women – the only side who retained a mathematical chance of catching Cliftonville at the summit – were defeated by Linfield Women this afternoon.

Coming on this 147th anniversary of the Club’s formation, all at Solitude are delighted that the efforts of everyone involved in our Ladies set-up have been rewarded for all their hard work and endeavour throughout the campaign – and we look forward to welcoming as many supporters as possible for a title party when the Women’s Premiership trophy is presented in the aftermath of the concluding League fixture with the Glens on Sunday, October 4.

Prior to that, however, the Champions and Boyle Sports Cup winners will face the Blues at Midgley Park on Friday evening and, as they chase down yet another trophy treble, tickets will soon go on sale for next month’s Women’s Irish Cup Final with Glentoran at the Clearer Twist Stadium.

Our Ladies Reserve team, Cliftonville Corinthians, meanwhile recorded an important win over their Glens counterparts at Solitude earlier today to maintain their own push for trophy celebrations.

Goals from Abi Curley, Lucy Kelly and Charley McMullan earned a 3-1 victory that knocks the east Belfast side out of the title reckoning and means that it’s now a straight shootout between the Reds – who lead the way at the top of the standings – and Crusaders Strikers ahead of a North Belfast Derby showdown at Solitude next Sunday.
