Danielle Maxwell picked up the Player of the Match award in Northern Ireland Women’s UEFA Nations League clash with Hungary this evening.

The Cliftonville midfielder was – along with Caitlin McGuinness – one of two Reds players in the starting XI, with Rachael Norney, Kelsie Burrows and Abbie Magee named on the bench for the showdown in Gyor.

After the hosts took an 18th minute lead through Viktoria Szabo, there was late drama in the Group B1 encounter with Northern Ireland levelling through Caragh Hamilton with nine minutes left on the clock.

Though Dora Sule instantly restored Hungary’s advantage, Simone Magill’s 89th minute penalty looked to have rescued a point for the visitors, who were left heartbroken when Hanna Nemeth scrambled home a winner deep into stoppage time.

Tanya Oxtoby’s side will, however, have a quick opportunity to set the record straight when Northern Ireland welcome Hungary to Seaview for their return game on Tuesday night.
