Final countdown: Norney
Football’s fine margins mean Cliftonville Ladies have no option other than to be fully focused and on top of their game in Saturday night’s Electric Ireland Women’s Challenge Cup Final – so says Rachael Norney.
The Reds will bid for a knockout trophy treble when they go toe-to-toe at Windsor Park with a Glentoran Women’s team that is bidding for a League and Cup double, and Norney believes that the pain of missing out on retaining their Sports Direct Women’s Premiership crown can be a driving factor for John McGrady’s side.
“Of course it’s disappointing not having the three trophies but it just shows that we can’t have any matches where we drop the intensity and work rate,” she explains.
“We now just need to focus on the Cup Final and ensure that we perform at the highest level.
“They will be a strong team to play against, however that doesn’t mean we aren’t just as strong. There will be a lot of pressure applied from both sides and it will be a tough game, but I believe we can pull through and lift the trophy.”
