All Adds up

Jonny Addis acknowledges that tightening things up defensively was one of Cliftonville’s top priorities going into the new season.

The Reds have recorded consecutive clean sheets over Newry City and Glenavon in their opening week of Sports Direct Premiership action and, ahead of tomorrow’s home encounter with Carrick Rangers, Addis believes that Tuesday night’s display at The Showgrounds will have given everyone a lift.

“It’s definitely pleasing defensively,” he says.

“It is something we knew we had to improve on this year, our defensive record last year was poor to say the least.

“We probably started the game a wee bit shaky and the same on Saturday – Glenavon had a few chances – but I think the second-half was as solid as we’ve been.”

You can read the full Addis interview in tomorrow’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.

Carrying Jim Magilton’s pre-match views from the Manager’s Office, The Red Eye’s second issue of the campaign reflects on an unpredictable opening week for the Gers and carries your first player poster of the season – plus plenty more besides.
