Spoils of Warr

Cliftonville 2-0 Warrenpoint Town

Ben Wilson and Rory Hale netted in either half in Cliftonville’s victory over Warrenpoint Town in this evening’s friendly at Solitude.

Joe Gormley had been denied by a smart save from Lewis Deane before an excellent stop by Nathan Gartside maintained the deadlock during an end-to-end start.

Gormley and Ronan Doherty were just off target ahead of the opener coming when Wilson demonstrated a good first touch and finish to tuck the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.

The Reds stepped things up after the interval and, enjoying greater bouts of possession, it was no surprise to see them double their lead when Hale’s stinging low drive found the bottom corner.

As the clock ticked town, Gerard Storey, Trialist B and Jack Berry threatened to further extend Cliftonville’s lead in a contest that ended with Warrenpoint’s sub keeper repelling a Jamie McDonagh attempt.

Cliftonville: Gartside, Addis, Gallagher, Foster, Lowe, Doherty, Gormley, Casey, Turner, Wilson, Trialist A. Subs: Odumosu, C Curran (for Casey), Rory Hale (for Gallagher), McDonagh (for Foster), Robinson (for Turner), Storey (for Doherty), Kearney (for Lowe), McGuinness (for Addis), Berry (for Gormley), Trialist B (for Wilson).
