Ton of belief

Vicky Carleton says she has enjoyed the challenge of tackling new opponents in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup.

Cliftonville Ladies have faced Bohemians, Sligo Rovers and Cork City – as well as familiar foes Sion Swifts – en route to tomorrow’s Final with Galway United, and Carleton is confident the Reds can come out on top despite heading into the known at Sligo Showgrounds.

“With the southern teams, it’s always a different challenge – a team you’ve never played against and know very little about but, like any team in our League, if we play to our strengths, I know we can come away with the trophy,” she declares.

“Everyone’s positive and buzzing for the first Final of the season. Obviously we’ve had a good chunk of our squad away with Northern Ireland and we couldn’t wait to have them back and get a proper training session in before the match.

“I think all the girls are used to big occasions from past Clubs or with Cliftonville, so we know what it takes to win big games.”
