Taking a Trayn check

Aaron Traynor says Cliftonville are in confident mood ahead of tomorrow’s Samuel Gelston’s Whiskey Irish Cup quarter-final with a “dangerous” Dungannon Swifts side.

The Reds go into the last-eight tie buoyed by last Saturday’s vital Danske Bank Premiership victory over Glentoran and, as eager as he is to generate some momentum on the back of that result, Traynor has issued a warning about respecting this weekend’s visitors.

“They’ve got good players and they are very dangerous on their day,” he asserts.

“I think an Irish Cup run is overdue for us. We’ve got in Finals and semi-finals in the last five years. That’s the game that we want to be competing in and Dungannon at home will be a tricky game – but after a win like last week’s, we’re going in with confidence.”

You can read the full Traynor interview in tomorrow’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.

Carrying pre-match views from the Manager’s Office, The Red Eye’s 22nd issue of the campaign looks at the Swifts’ dual targets and steps 112, 79 and 34 years down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.
