Competitive class

Rory Hale says the Cliftonville changing room’s instinctive desire to succeed will be a driving force for tonight’s County Antrim Shield quarter-final clash with Linfield.

The Reds enter the Solitude showdown on the back of a frustrating goalless stalemate with Crusaders last time out and Hale admits to disappointment that neither he nor his team-mates were able to establish any kind of consistent pressure in that encounter.

“The Crues like to man mark you, get touch tight and stop the rhythm of the game,” says the 25-year-old.

“I thought in the first-half, they done that. In the second-half, it opened up a bit, but we didn’t really get real control of the ball and a draw was probably a fair result in the end.”

Though tonight’s game provides a break from the intensity of Danske Bank Premiership action, Hale adds: “It’s a cup competition and we want to be competing in all the cups.

“We’ll do our preparation and get ready for another big game against Linfield.”

You can read the full Hale interview in tonight’s edition of our Matchday Magazine, which will be on sale at Solitude for £3.

Carrying pre-match views from the Manager’s Office, The Red Eye’s eighth issue of the campaign checks in on the Blues’ way run as well as stepping 70, 36 and 25 years down memory lane – plus plenty more besides.
