Brought to mind

John McGrady has saluted the mindset of his Cliftonville Ladies team ahead of tonight’s crunch Danske Bank Women’s Premiership showdown with Glentoran Women.

The Reds have won all 12 of their League outings so far this season and can take a giant stride towards a first ever title with victory over the defending Champions at Ashfield Boys High School this evening.

“I’m delighted with their mentality, they know there is nothing taken for granted and they know there are massive games ahead,” says McGrady of his players.

“They know Glentoran are the title holders and they want to hunt them down. It’s a great mentality and, again, it’s driven by the players, we just facilitate and guide it. It makes the managements’ lives easier.”

Aware that a draw would also keep his side in firm control of proceedings at the top of the table, McGrady insists Cliftonville will nevertheless make the trip to east Belfast seeking maximum points.

“It’s brilliant to be involved in big games, especially at this stage of the season,” he adds. “These are the games players and staff want to be involved in.

“We always play to win, there is no other way to play. The moment you set up for a draw, you’re already admitting defeat.

“We want to win every single time we set foot on the pitch. That mentality is set by the players, they know no other options, they want to win all the time.”
