Ready to go egan
Focus is the name of the game as far as Toni-Leigh Finnegan is concerned.
Following a three-week break, Cliftonville Ladies return to Danske Bank Women’s Premiership action when they take on Mid Ulster Ladies in Cookstown this evening and Finnegan has a straightforward message for her team-mates, who have won all 10 of their League outings so far this season.
“The only advice I’d give the team is to work hard and stay professional on the pitch no matter what the scoreline is,” she says.
“I think it’s good that we haven’t lost a game and we’re top of the League, although we were in this position last year and what we’ve learnt from that is that the next game is the most important game because it’s the only game where we can get three points in.”
With a perfect Premiership record under their belts thus far, Finnegan expects Cliftonville to become a top scalp for all opponents for the remainder of the campaign but is quick to point out that the Reds have plenty of their own motivations as they bid to maintain the gap between themselves and defending Champions Glentoran Women.
“Of course everyone is going to want to end our winning run,” she adds.
“Everyone knows winning games is great although the season isn’t over and we’ve a lot more games to win as we’re the ones chasing for what Glentoran have.”
