Erin graces

Erin Montgomery has warned against writing Cliftonville Ladies off depsite the absence of a raft of established names for this evening’s League Cup semi-final showdown with Lisburn Ladies.

All of the Reds’ international players will miss out on the game and, with a number of injuries to report, boss John McGrady will have key personnel decisions to make, but Montgomery insists anyone called upon is capable of maintaining standards.

“I see it as an opportunity to show everyone that we have depth in our squad,” she says.

“It’s also a chance for some of the young players to step up when needed and take leadership.”

While she acknowledges that tonight’s opponents will be seeking to take advantage of any unfamiliarity in the Cliftonville line-up, Montgomery believes that the prevailing attitude in the Solitude dressing room can see them through.

“I think Lisburn will definitely see it as a better option that we don’t have our international players and they will try to exploit this as much as they can,” she adds.

“But we have youth internationals throughout our squad. We know Lisburn will work hard but we will definitely not be out-worked by anyone.”
