McDaniel’s on the defensive

Clean sheets will be vital to Cliftonville Ladies’ prospects of Danske Bank Women’s Premiership glory – so says Louise McDaniel.

The Reds have conceded just once in their four League outings so far this season and top the table on goal difference above Glentoran Women, whose backline has been breached twice.

Ahead of tonight’s Solitude showdown with top-flight newcomers Mid Ulster Ladies, McDaniel has outlined the importance of the whole squad being attuned to defensive discipline as Cliftonville bid to maintain their perfect start to proceedings.

“Keeping a clean sheet is probably just as important to everyone as goals being scored so I feel the whole team does take pride in keeping clean sheets,” she explains.

“I think it was important for the team to get off to get off to a good start as it sets the tone for the rest of the season. It gives us something to aim for knowing that we can take three points in each game.”
