Cliftonville Ladies 9-0 Derry City Women

The Guinness sisters plundered eight strikes between them as Cliftonville Ladies went goal crazy against Derry City Women this evening.

With Caitlin bagging five and Kirsty hitting three, some sibling rivalry is liable to come into play when it comes to determining who keeps hold of the matchball.

Marissa Callaghan was the other scorer on a night the Reds kept touch with title rivals Glentoran at the top of the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership.

Cliftonville had the ball in the net within a minute of kick-off; Callaghan squaring for Caitlin McGuinness to complete the job.

Fi Morgan then provided the pass from which Callaghan made it 2-0 ahead of Kirsty McGuinness firing into the roof of the net.

The fourth arrived on 29 minutes when, at the second attempt, Caitlin got the better of Derry goalkeeper Claire Friel and she duly sealed her hat-trick with a close-range finish before half-time.

Ten minutes after the turnaround, Caitlin made it 6-0 with her fourth of the night and extended her personal tally to five when she finished from Erin Montgomery’s cross in the aftermath of sister Kirsty striking the post.

Caitlin would, however, tee Kirsty up to hit Cliftonville’s eighth on 72 minutes before the elder McGuinness sibling wrapped up the night’s scoring deep into injury-time.
