Reds draw a blank

Cliftonville Ladies 0-0 Linfield Ladies

Cliftonville Ladies were frustrated to be held to a goalless draw by Linfield Ladies in this evening’s Danske Bank Women’s Premiership clash at Solitude.

The first draw of the Reds’ League programme saw John McGrady’s side relinquish top spot in the table as Glentoran Women returned to the summit on goal difference with just four rounds of fixtures left to play.

Victoria Carleton and Lucy Johnston both went close for the Blues early on, while Cliftonville’s best opening of the first-half came when Marissa Callaghan worked her way into some space but her low cross just evaded Kirsty McGuinness in the middle.

With visiting keeper Lauren Currie in inspired form, McGuinness saw a free-kick scale the crossbar before Fi Morgan headed wide as the Reds tried to vain to find the night’s breakthrough goal.

Cliftonville: Norney, White, Burrows, Moran (Caldwell, 59 mins), Morgan, McDaniel, McConnell (McHenry, 66 mins), K McGuinness, Davis, Callaghan, Weatherall. Unused subs: Welsh, McAuley, Montgomery.
