Eu Reds: Barry Town United
As the countdown to Cliftonville’s return to footballing action continues, cliftonvillefc.net continues a mini series of continental anniversaries by turning the clock back just two years.
For it was on this day in 2019 that the Reds drew 0-0 with Barry Town United in the first leg of the sides’ Europa League Preliminary Round tie at Leckwith Stadium in Cardiff.
At the end of a day perhaps best remembered for the travel difficulties faced by supporters who were hit by last-minute flight cancellations, a sizeable visiting support nevertheless assembled in the Welsh capital, where Cliftonville enjoyed the better of the play but were unable to make the most of opportunities that fell the way of Chris Curran, Ruaidhri Donnelly, Conor McMenamin and Ryan Curran.
Cliftonville: Brush, McDermott, Ives, Breen, C Curran, Harkin, R Donnelly, Bagnall, Doherty, McMenamin, Gorman.
Subs: Dunne, Harney, R Curran (for McMenamin, 83 mins), Foster, Wilson, Gormley (for Doherty, 79 mins), Maguire (for McDermott, 90 mins).
