Greight response

Cliftonville Olympic bounced back from last week’s defeat by putting eight goals past Glenavon Reserves at Solitude this evening.

Brendan Lynch’s side, who top the Premiership Development League, suffered their first loss of the campaign when they were hit for six by Dungannon last time out but needed just five minutes to set themselves on course tonight when Calvin McCurry netted from Peter McKiernan’s flick on.

The visitors levelled from a corner soon later but the Reds reclaimed their lead almost instantly courtesy of Mark McKee’s volley from the edge of the box.

Despite dominating possession, the Olympic were pegged back again when a 30th minute own goal made it 2-2 but, just as before, the team responded superbly and went back in front when Odhran Casey fed McKiernan for a cool finish.

It was 4-2 before half-time with McKiernan returning to his role as provider for McCurry (pictured) to register his second goal of the game.

Substitute Conor Scannell set Padraig Slane up to score the Reds’ fifth after the break before Slane’s free-kick allowed Casey to make it six.

On 80 minutes, Scannell got his name on the scoresheet following good work from Lee O’Brien, who was rewarded for his efforts with a goal of his own to put the seal on an 8-2 success seven minutes from time.
