Plus points for Conor

Conor Scannell was on the scoresheet again as Cliftonville Olympic banked a 1-0 win over Warrenpoint Town Reserves at Solitude this afternoon.

Following his midweek double against Carrick Rangers Reserves, Scannell – whose older brother Eamon was part of the Warrenpoint side beaten 5-1 by the Reds’ senior stars at Milltown – struck the only goal of the game during the second-half of a scrappy battle.

The Olympic were uncharacteristically slow to start, which opened the door for the visitors to carve out a number of early chances but, following a half-time pep talk from boss Brendan Lynch, emerged with greater purpose after the interval and their patient display against a stubborn Warrenpoint outfit paid off when Scannell seized on an opportunity in the box before calmly slotting home.
