Winning fourm

Conor Scannell scored twice as Cliftonville Olympic enjoyed a 4-0 victory over Carrick Rangers Reserves at Solitude this evening.

Maintaining their unbeaten start to the new Premiership Development League season, the Reds also had Lee O’Brien and Odhran Casey on the scoresheet in a fine team display.

Amid a bright start from the hosts, Scannell (pictured) opened the scoring after just five minutes following a smart throughball from O’Brien and doubled his personal tally when he was teed up by Calvin McCurry.

Carrick responded well to those setbacks and, with both teams being at a high tempo, it was the Reds who netted next; O’Brien converting on the stroke of half-time to ensure a health advantage at the interval.

A Casey header early in the second period further extended the Olympic’s lead and, despite going close to adding to their tally – most notably through a volleyed Padraig Slane strke that was cleared off the line – Brendan Lynch’s side were forced to make do with four goals in a productive night’s work.
