Hot Curry sauce

Crumlin United 0-7 Cliftonville

Calvin McCurry and Sean Brown both bagged doubles as an experimental Cliftonville side struck seven goals without reply against Crumlin United in this evening’s Mill Road friendly.

The Reds were four goals to the good at half-time, with Manager Paddy McLaughlin introducing youngsters Padraig Slane and Kyle Anderson to proceedings after the break as the visitors gave further game-time to a number of the Club’s up-and-coming talents.

It was, however, the familiar figure of Jamie Harney who opened the scoring when he nodded home from a corner and it wasn’t long before a similar delivery yielded the second goal; McCurry hooking in from close range after Garry Breen had headed goalward.

An injury to Lee O’Brien – who joined fellow young gun Stephen McGuinness in the starting XI – meant an early introduction for ‘Saucy’ Brown (pictured) who, having been on target in the weekend’s win over Cookstown Youth, promptly made it 3-0 with his first touch after being teed up by Seanna Foster’s low cross.

Within a minute, McCurry rifiled into the bottom corner to claim his second of the night and assure Cliftonville of a commanding half-time advantage.

The fifth took a little while in coming, with Foster’s decision to try his luck from distance rewarded when the Crumlin keeper found his shot too hot to handle and it wasn’t long before Stephen Garrett added number six with a firm blast from outside the area.

The night’s scoring was complete when McGuinness’ cross from the left was seized upon by Brown, who bundled the ball over the line amid the close attentions of a home defender.

Cliftonville: Dunne, Breen, Harney, Garrett, R Donnelly, Foster, Wilson, A Donnelly, O’Brien, McCurry, McGuinness. Subs: Slane (for R Donnelly), Brown (for O’Brien), Anderson (for Wilson).
