Squad goals

Paddy McLaughlin says he has been delighted with the Cliftonville squad’s application since he arrived at the Club at the start of the month.

The Reds travel to Mourneview Park for a repeatedly-rearranged Danske Bank Premiership encounter with Glenavon tomorrow, when the Manager is hopeful his team can build on the positive approach they have displayed during his tenure to date.

“Anything we have asked of the players, their response has been excellent be it in training our during matches,” says McLaughlin.

“They’re taking really well to the new ideas we’re trying to bring in and, if we keep building on our momentum, we’ll be alright. We’re learning more about the players in every game and they’re learning more about us and the more that goes on, the more improvement we hope to see.

“We could have seen this season out and fulfilled fixtures for the final couple of months but we’re already building for next season.”

With Cliftonville’s place in the Europa League Play-Offs confirmed by last week’s defeat of Warrenpoint Town, tomorrow’s clash with the Lurgan Blues presents a test against a side with similar objectives for the rest of the campaign.

“It will be another tough game because Glenavon will be targeting European football like ourselves so there’s a still a lot to play for and a lot of points to be won and lost.

“Every game has its own significance and importance.”
