Swift response
Marissa Callaghan’s late equaliser helped Cliftonville Ladies reduce the gap at the top of the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership with a 2-2 draw against Sion Swifts this evening.
Having threatened through Billie Simpson and Emma McMaster in the first-half, the Reds fell behind shortly after the interval and, after losing Amber Dempster to injury, soon found themselves 2-0 down.
An outrageous effort from Simpson – who, not for the first time this season, netted from inside her own half – gave Cliftonville hope before Callaghan struck to earn a battling 2-2 draw.
The Reds now find themselves eight points behind Linfield Ladies at the Premiership summit with a game in hand as the season enters its final third of action.
