Sion set

Cliftonville Ladies suffered League Cup disappointment this evening when their interest was ended at the Semi Final stage by Sion Swifts.

Despite taking a somewhat fortunate lead late in the first-half, the Reds eventually went down 3-1 to a well drilled visiting side.

Leah McEvoy was first to threaten for the hosts, but it was Cliftonville goalkeeper Lauren Currie who caught the eye with a number of smart stops in the opening 45 minutes.

The deadlock was broken shortly before the turnaround when Leontia McVarnock got in the road of an attempted clearance by the Sion keeper and looked on as the ball rebounded into the net.

The Reds’ lead would not last long, though, with the visitors levelling early in the second-half before going on to book their place in the League Cup Final with two further strikes.
