Storm in a Trea Cup

Treaty United 3-2 Cliftonville Ladies

Cliftonville Ladies fell to a narrow defeat following a dramatic finale to this afternoon’s Women’s All-Island Cup opener against Treaty United.

All five of the game’s goals came in the second-half, with four reserved for the final six minutes of a gripping contest.

Switched to the Astropark in Ballingarry due to an unplayable surface at Markets Field, the game provided little by way of serious goalmouth entertainment in the opening period but the deadlock was broken on 55 minutes when Madison McGuane pounced to put Treaty ahead.

Though McGuane doubled the hosts’ advantage with a few minutes remaining, Cliftonville set up an interesting conclusion when Carla Devine reduced the arrears.

Ciara Breslin restored the Limerick outfit’s two-goal margin almost immediately before Lucy Kelly pulled one back but, despite a brave effort, Brendan Lynch’s side weren’t able to secure a late point.
