Pic it out again
No sooner had the Club’s Heritage Development Officer Paul Treanor expressed gratitude for being presented with a never-before-seen picture of Cliftonville Olympic’s Wilton Cup winning team of 1954 than he promptly received another!
The formal Club photograph was passed on by Ards FC historian Adrian Monaghan after meeting the family of former Reds and Ards striker Davy Lawther at the North Down Club’s recent 125th Anniversary Exhibition and was part of a collection that featured Lawther and John Parke in action against Distillery at Grosvenor Park during the 1950s, as showcased in today’s #ThrowbackThursday posts on our social media platforms.
Also included was a shot of the Ireland team – including a number of Cliftonville players – that contested an Amateur International with England at Solitude during the 1955/56 season, with sincere thanks extended to Adrian at Ards for his assistance.

Paul remains grateful to everyone who has helped grow the Club’s Official archive in recent years and if you, or someone you know, has any Cliftonville related items – photos, reports, records, minute books, ledgers, or scrapbooks – he would be delighted to hear from you.
While donations are very acceptable, he is just as happy to receive items on loan to be digitally recorded and returned.
