Down to a Tee

Crusaders Strikers 0-3 Cliftonville Ladies

Teegan Lynch netted twice as Cliftonville Ladies claimed the North Belfast Derby honours against Crusaders Strikers this evening.

Five days on from retaining the VBet Women’s League Cup with a sensational comeback victory over Glentoran Women at Seaview, the Reds savoured further delight on the Shore Road, where three unanswered goals lifted the Champions up to third in the standings, two points behind a Linfield Women side that has played two more games.

The deadlock was broken after just 11 minutes when Aoibhe O’Neill crossed for Lynch, who lifted her effort over the home goalkeeper from close range.

Julie Nelson lashed over as the Crues went in search of a leveller, with both Abbie Magee and Marissa Callaghan trying their luck for Cliftonville before Lynch saw a header clip the crossbar.

Just past the hour, Carla Devine was unable to steer an attempt on target but it wasn’t long before the Reds had doubled their advantage; Kirsty McGuinness seizing on a pass from Callaghan before producing a confident finish.

Lynch claimed her second of the evening with just over a quarter of an hour to play when she showed good composure to find the net after a couple of other shots had been blocked inside the box.

Katie Markey had a shot saved as the visitors sought a fourth, with Vicky Carleton likewise denied before the final whistle.
