Back for seconds

Cliftonville 2-0 Glentoran

Cliftonville produced a stirring second-half performance to get the better of Glentoran at Solitude this evening.

After an opening 45 minutes that largely saw the teams cancel one another out, the Reds were indebted to Lewis Ridd and Harry Wilson for key interventions early in the second period before the deadlock was broken when Ryan Curran converted a rebound after Rory Hale’s shot was kept out by Daniel Gyollai.

And Cliftonville didn’t have to wait long to double their advantage as Alex Parsons swung in the corner kick delivery that Jack Keaney met with a powerful back post header.

Ridd’s flying save from Johnny Russell ensured the Glens didn’t set up a grandstand finale, while injury-time saw Keaney go close with a free-kick that whistled just wide before Ryan Corrigan almost teed fellow substitute Joe Gormley up for a finish that would have put the perfect seal on things.
