Cliftonville Ladies 3-3 Cork City Women

Teegan Lynch scored an ice-cool 97th minute equaliser as Cliftonville Ladies produced a stunning comeback from 3-0 down against Cork City to reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s All-Island Cup this afternoon.

A week on from battling back from 2-0 down to overcome Linfield Women at Solitude, the Reds trailed Cork City 3-0 before mustering up an incredible late response that was rendered all the more remarkable by the fact they ended the game with 10 players.

Knowing that a win would earn a qualifying position from Group C, Cliftonville got off to the worst possible start when Stela Berezowski put the visitors in front with just two minutes on the clock.

The same player doubled Cork’s advantage soon later before Heidi Mackin’s 33rd minute finish had the Leesiders in apparent control and on course for a place in the knockout stages.

Though Vicky Carleton reduced the arrears before half-time, the Reds’ ambitions looked to be in tatters until Annarose Robinson pulled it back to 3-2 with 18 minutes left on the clock.

Robinson’s dismissal two minutes later threatened to stall the hosts’ momentum and, when Lynch had a late strike ruled out for offside, Cork’s victory appeared inevitable – until, that was, until deep into injury-time when Louise McDaniel’s flick-on fell perfectly at the feet of Lynch, who showed immense composure to sidestep the goalkeeper and slot into the net, lifting Cliftonville into second spot in the group with no time left to play.
