A host of Cliftonville players across multiple age groups performed on the international stage for various Northern Ireland teams over the course of the past week.

Ladies captain Kelsie Burrows was part of the senior squad that claimed home and away victories over Malta in World Cup qualifiers, while Lydia Thompson and Lucy Kelly were in Portugal for a UEFA mini tournament with the Under-19s.

Both players enjoyed substitute appearances in a 1-0 defeat to the hosts last Sunday and, after Kelly emerged from the bench in a midweek reverse at the hands of Spain, the Reds pair featured in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Hungary which helped Northern Ireland retain their League A status.

Six Cliftonville players were, meanwhile, involved in the Northern Ireland Under-16 squad for a double header of friendlies with Scotland.

For the first game at Greenisland FC – which the visitors won 2-0 – Annarose Robinson and Abigail Curley were named in the starting XI, with Beth Peoples, Autumn Edgar, Anayah Lee and Charley McMullan listed as subs.

Edgar, Lee, Curley and McMullan were all promoted to the line-up for a subsequent 1-1 draw, for which goalkeeper Peoples was on the bench.

Elsewhere, nine of our Academy players were among the Northern Ireland Under-14 panel that faced Rangers in a friendly in Glasgow.

Keagan O’Connor, Riley McCreery, Ryland Perry, Liam McAteer, Ronan Vernon, Cuan Carmichael, Max McAuley, Cuan O’Bradiagh and Anton Doras all made the trip across the Irish Sea for the game, which the visitors won 7-2.

In the same city, meanwhile, Eimear Ward scored both of Cliftonville Corinthians’ goals in a 5-2 friendly loss to Celtic at Barrowfield this weekend.
