Signature move
As part of his his ongoing project to bolster the Club’s archives, Cliftonville’s Heritage Development Officer, Paul Treanor, extends thanks to Tim McGarry and the family of Brian Anderson for some recent assistance.
He was very pleased to take receipt of a letter that former Reds Manager Jimmy Brown had written to Brian in April 1980 in response to a request for players’ autographs.
Paul surmises that the signatures were penned on the day of a County Antrim Shield encounter with Glentoran at Solitude and notes that, as well as featuring nine of the team that had won the Irish Cup less than a year earlier, also includes Jim Alexander (who had been part of the Portadown side defeated in the Cup Final at Windsor Park) as well as Albert Holden, Ronnie McAteer and Albert Macklin.
Provided by Brian’s daughter via Tim McGarry, Paul is hugely grateful for their help in growing the Club’s Official archive. If you, or someone you know, has any Cliftonville related items – photos, reports, records, minute books, ledgers, or scrapbooks – he would be similarly delighted to hear from you.
While donations are very acceptable, he is just as happy to receive items on loan to be digitally recorded and returned.
