Reds miss out on title role

Glentoran Women 1-0 Cliftonville Ladies

Cliftonville Ladies’ suffered final day heartbreak as they were unable to claim the win they needed to retain the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership title.

Glentoran Women, who entered the game knowing that a draw would be enough for them to come out on top, made the breakthrough just past the hour and held on to inflict a first away defeat of the season on the Reds.

The visitors had carved out the contest’s better chances and saw no fewer than three attempts cleared off the line before Nadene Caldwell nudged the Glens in front.

Both Kirsty McGuinness and Naomi McLaughlin were then foiled by home keeper Ashleigh McKinnon in the closing stages as Cliftonville’s brave bid to toast back-to-back crowns fell just short.
